IPilogue Team
IPilogue (www.iposgoode.ca) is the first online review of its kind, featuring thoughtful intellectual property and technology law commentary by its students as well as scholars and other experts from around the world. As an interdisciplinary forum, we explore issues ranging from biotechnology to telecommunications, media to privacy, antitrust to tort, and beyond.
Based at Osgoode Hall Law School, IPilogue seeks to promote evidence-based dialogue featuring a multitude of perspectives. Students from other law schools are welcome to contribute to IPilogue. We also welcome interdisciplinary contributions from professionals and scholars in various disciplines outside of law.

Booker Zhang is a first-year JD student at the University of Manitoba. He graduated from South China University of Technology majoring in Software Engineering and then spent two years learning Agribusiness at the University of Manitoba. His passion for Intellectual Property comes from his interests in internet and related innovative technologies, such as the block chain and 5G. Meena is a 2L JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall. She completed a Bachelor of Arts and Science at McMaster with a minor in biology. During her undergraduate summers, she worked as a cancer biology research assistant investigating the mechanisms of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Meena has a particular interest in patents, having worked on a patent draft pertaining to cancer research in her time as a research assistant. As an IPilogue Writer, Meena looks forward to addressing the interactions between innovation, artistry, and intellectual property law.

Alice is a 1L JD student at Western University’s Faculty of Law. Alice became curious about intellectual property and technology law from her year of working at a technology start-up as a Legal Assistant, where she frequently researched developments in law that impacted technology companies. Amin is pursuing his LLM in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School. He has been practicing law since 2013, during which time he advised a plethora of small to large companies, to help them navigate their legal obligations, protect their IP assets, mitigate risks, and focus on their business growth. He has particular legal experience in telecommunication, cryptocurrency, software products, and blockchain technology. In addition, he has a keen interest in achieving workable solutions to address the growing gaps between nascent technologies and law.

Emily is currently in her third year of study at Osgoode Hall Law School. Previously, she has obtained her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from McMaster University, as well as a minor in French. GOVIND CHATURVEDI
LL.M Graduate 2021, Osgoode Hall Law School
Govind is a lawyer with practise experience in Intellectual Property, Social media laws and Privacy laws and has received his LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School (2021). Prior to joining Osgoode Hall Law School, he has worked in IP boutique firms in India, and has done litigation regarding Patents, Design, Trademarks, Copyright and Technology laws and advised companies from different jurisdictions on their IP strategy globally. He has also authored a book on the subject of “Trademark Prosecution and Opposition in India” published with Bloomsbury publication (India division). Govind having grown in an environment where technology and social policy were main points of discussion and hence became curious on how technology will affect the needs of the society. He developed a keen interest in privacy, social media, AI, Open-source software, IP, and has worked towards discussing innovations in these fields and regularly gives lectures for entrepreneurs and lawyers on these aspects in India. Outside of law he likes to watch movies and swim.

GREGORY HONG
JD Candidate 2025, Osgoode Hall Law School
Gregory just started 1L at Osgoode Hall Law School. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering at McMaster University majoring in Electrical & Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Music. He then went on to get a Ph.D. from Western University in Medical Biophysics exploring the potential for MRI in conjunction with novel orthopedic devices, with a focus on 3D-printed porous metal implants and monitoring implant infection. As an IPilogue writer, Gregory hopes to use his unique technical background to provide perspectives on high-tech issues in intellectual property.

Katie is a 2L student at Osgoode Hall Law School, prior to which she attended McMaster University where she received both a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences. She has a particular interest in pharmaceutical patent litigation, having worked closely with this team at Smart & Biggar over her 1L summer. As a contributing writer, Katie hopes to use her unique perspective on patent law, as well as her interests in the entertainment industry (especially Taylor Swift), to help further the IPilogue’s diverse writing team.

Michelle has just completed her 1L year at Osgoode Hall Law School. As a graduate from the University of Toronto’s Bachelor of Science program, double majoring in Health Studies and Global Health, she is interested in improving the health outcomes of Canadians through policy. Michelle’s particular interest in patent law stems from her passion in supporting the development of orphan drugs for rare diseases. As an IPilogue writer, Michelle is excited to write on a variety of different topics relating to IP, including health technology and visual art. In her free time, she enjoys visiting art museums, taking long walks with her dog, and playing video games.

Nancy is a second-year JD/MBA student at the University of Toronto. She obtained an Honours Bachelor of Science from McMaster University, majoring in biochemistry. Her interest in intellectual property law stemmed from an eye-opening stem cell course and curiosity for evolving technology. PANKHURI MALIK
LL.M Candidate, Osgoode Hall Law School
Pankhuri is pursuing her LLM in International Business Laws from Osgoode Hall School of Law. Previously, Pankhuri was a Senior Associate with the IP Boutique firm Anand and Anand in India. At the firm, Pankhuri worked on all litigation concerning all spheres of IP, particularly pharmaceutical patents. Pankhuri’s interest in IP has grown with the revelation of the upcoming metaverse. Pankhuri has developed an interest in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and is curious to see how IP law evolves over the upcoming decade. Outside of work, Pankhuri enjoys painting, swimming and movie nights.

Sally is in her third year at Osgoode Hall Law School. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Life Sciences (Animal Physiology) and English. Sally’s interest in intellectual property stems from her appreciation for the performing arts as a violinist. She is also excited to share her interests in gaming technology and biotechnology as a contributing writer. Outside of law school, she enjoys overanalyzing film scores and making her friends try her often mediocre baking attempts.

Serena is beginning her second year of law at Osgoode Hall Law School. Her interest in intellectual property mainly stems from her educational background, where she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences in biochemistry and cell biology from Western University, and a Master of Science in biochemistry from McGill. However, in addition to science, she is keen to explore the intersection between intellectual property law and her other areas of interest: music and fashion. Outside of law school, Serena enjoys rock-climbing, hiking, playing soccer, guitar, and the podcast “Ongoing History of New Music”.
