IP Osgoode and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) are thrilled to announce the winner of the fifth annual edition of Canada’s IP Writing Challenge:
1. In the Law Student category, the judges selected Daniel Whalen as the winner for this year’s Challenge:
Daniel won for his entry: “Everything Old is New Again: Reframing the Cultural Explanation for Intellectual Property Infringement in China.” Daniel Whalen is a recent graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and is currently articling at Smart & Biggar / Fetherstonhaugh in Ottawa.
2. In the Graduate Student category, the judges did not select a winner for this year’s Challenge.
3. In the Professional category, the judges did not select a winner for this year’s Challenge.
We were pleased to receive submissions from across the country on a wide range of subjects, including: moral rights, fair dealing, fan fiction, trade-marks, IP rights in databases, patentable subject matter, copyright reform, Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), and international IP rights governance.
Daniel will be receiving a prize of $1000 and, in addition to having his winning article showcased here on the IPilogue, the article will be considered for publication in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review (CIPR) or the Intellectual Property Journal (IPJ).
